About Photography… Well, A Little About My Photography

So, I love photography. any type of photography. I’ve experimented with loads of different types. My favourites are landscape and portrait photography.

Landscape photography, to me, is about sharing the places I love. I chose the places I photograph for a multitude of reasons. Sometimes it’s just a love of the view, like the fife coastal path, or history of the places like Ravenscraig Castle and sometimes it’s about the wildlife like the river Leven.

Ravenscraig Castle, Pictured above, combines two of my favourite things in landscape photography:-

1 — The View

2 — The History

Vintage Cap Gun and Sheriff badge

I’ve experimented with product photography. Sometimes product photography is fun but for the most part, I’m not a fan. I find it often requires too much perfection. I honestly believe that the overt need for perfection sometimes ruins the natural aspects of photography.

I took this photography whilst playing with these vintage cap guns. they were made in the 1950s. I love that these are well used and not quite perfect.

The lack of perfection in this images feels like something well loved and used. It looks more realistic than the completely perfect items that are often shown. I will add, I do know that for advertising that products need to be perfect and show the product in the best light.

Portrait photography is great fun. It’s about getting the best from people. it’s about creating connections. Amongst my favourite subjects to photograph are my children.

There are a few photographers I love, and who I hope to one day emulate the standard of. This photo of my daughter was inspired by a photographer based in London.

Meeting people, getting natural reactions, giving them a final image which can make them happy are all amazing.

This has been an interesting challenge for me as I sometimes find approaching people difficult. In a way it’s been a good thing. Photographing people outside my family has helped my confidence. This boost in confidence led me to being able to get a photograph i really like. It was taken in Edinburgh during the summer. I briefly spoke to this wonderful saxophone player between tunes and asked if i could take his photograph. Unfortunately, I did not get a contact method for him to forward the photograph.

He was a good player and i love this photo for the reflections in the window. I actually took two photos but i prefer this one.
